Jonathan Goodding

Expressive landscape paintings exploring the grandeur of the Great Plains.

Growing up, my family would stop on the side of the road just to watch the clouds. Trained in painting and printmaking at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I'm drawn to the landscape I grew up in. I want to capture the fleeting experience of witnessing events such as a storm front rolling in, or a color-bathed sunrise.

Encounters like these have the ability to make us feel small, to give perspective to our troubles, to point to what is greater than we are. For me, the creative act is an exercise in exploring the wisdom and design of my Creator.

Through form, color, and energetic mark-making, I seek to express the beauty and grandeur designed into wide-open Midwestern skies.

About Jonathan

Become a collector

There's nothing like living with a painting you love. That feeling of drama or that wash of color can really change a room. But owning a piece of my work doesn't have to cost thousands. A print of your favorite 5″×7″ painting starts at $28.

Every print is made with archival pigment inks that render rich and accurate colors that last for over a century. 100% cotton rag paper is acid-free, so it won't yellow over time.

All prints are available framed and matted at every size, so your artwork comes ready to hang the day it arrives. Or if you have your own frame in mind, you can always order a print unframed.

Of course, nothing beats having an original oil painting in your home. Originals are available for purchase directly from the studio shop. All originals are painted on heavy duck canvas and gallery wrapped on a 1.5″ deep stretcher. Optional natural maple floater frames are available for every original, hand-made by me.

If you need a custom size to fit the perfect spot in your home, have a jaw-dropping photograph you'd like me to paint, or simply want to collaborate with me on a custom piece, head over to the commissions page and reach out to me there.
