Jonathan lives with his wife Suzanne and their 7 children just outside of Lincoln, Nebraska. Growing up, Jonathan inherited a love of the beauty in the sky from his father—the family would often run down to the local park, or stop on the side of the road in order to observe and photograph the clouds.

Trained in painting and printmaking at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Jonathan is drawn to the landscape he grew up in. He seeks to capture the fleeting experience of witnessing events such as a storm front rolling in, or a color-bathed sunrise. Encounters like these have the ability to make us feel small, to give perspective to our troubles, to point to what is greater than we are. For Jonathan, the creative act is an exercise in exploring the wisdom and design of his Creator. It is an attempt to communicate what is easily lost through the lens of a camera, and is difficult to articulate through words.

Through form, color, and energetic mark-making, Jonathan seeks to express the beauty and grandeur designed into wide-open Midwestern skies.
